Borehole Drilling and Groundwater Monitoring Training in Kalahien Village

Training Session with All the Participants

On March 28, 2024, PT. NRS, in collaboration with Universitas Palangkaraya and the Community Fire Brigade (MPA) group of Kalahien Village, held a comprehensive training session on borehole drilling and the installation of groundwater level measuring tools. The event took place in Kalahien Village, with practical field activities carried out at the PT. NRS concession area. This initiative was designed to equip participants with the skills needed to monitor groundwater levels and effectively manage water resources, essential in preventing forest and land fires.

The training kicked off with an opening session followed by a detailed presentation from Mr. Pandriyani of Universitas Palangkaraya, who guided the attendees through the technical aspects of borehole drilling and the use of groundwater measuring equipment. The theoretical segment was followed by a group photo and the signing of the official training report, symbolizing the participants' commitment to applying the knowledge gained.

Field Practice on the Borehole Drilling Process

Field practice began later in the day at the PT. NRS concession area in the Masimpun region. During this session, a team of 12 participants, including eight members from the MPA group and four representatives from PT. NRS, actively engaged in the borehole drilling process. The drilling was successfully completed, reaching a depth of 12 meters, with a 24-meter range and a water flow rate of 5 liters per second. Following the drilling, the installation of groundwater measuring tools was carried out to monitor the water table's status, which was recorded at a safe level of 21 cm. This training marked a significant milestone as the first of its kind conducted by PT. NRS and Universitas Palangkaraya for the MPA group in Kalahien Village. It represents a crucial step in empowering local communities to take an active role in forest and land fire prevention. The positive response from participants and their commitment to implementing these skills in their daily activities underscored the importance of such practical initiatives.

The training has laid a solid foundation for ongoing efforts in environmental conservation and sustainable land management. The practical skills and knowledge gained will empower the Kalahien Village community to actively protect their natural resources and reduce forest fire risks. PT. NRS and its partners remain committed to supporting these communities through continued training and capacity-building initiatives for a more resilient future.
