The Barsel Expo 2024 was held from September 15 to September 21 at the Batuah Stadium in Buntok. This year's theme, “Together, Creating a Prosperous and Advanced Barito Selatan,” set the stage for collaboration and community engagement. In partnership with the Barito Selatan Environmental Agency (DLH Barsel), PT NRS showcased its initiatives, connecting with stakeholders and the local community. Positioned alongside the DLH Barsel booth, the PT NRS display drew significant attention from attendees.
Merchandise and Souvenirs from PT NRS
The PT NRS booth was a standout attraction at the Barsel Expo 2024, captivating visitors with its vibrant display of unique products. Highlighting the exceptional craftsmanship of the Kalahien community, the booth featured beautifully handcrafted bamboo items and exquisite beeswax candles from Murung Paken, celebrating local artistry and the region's rich cultural heritage.

Attendees were invited to explore the captivating Ethnobotany book, which highlights the extraordinary medicinal benefits of various plants found in Madara, Kalahien, and Pararapak in Barito Selatan Regency., while an informative X-banner shared insights about PT NRS and its mission. A significant moment came when PT NRS presented merchandise, including the Ethnobotany book and profiles of PT NRS and YHES, to distinguished guests such as Mr. Dr. H. Deddy Winarwan, M.Si., CGCAE, CRGP, the Acting Regent of Barito Selatan Regency, and Mr. Ir. Bilivson, S.T., M.T., the Head of the Barito Selatan Environmental Agency.
This momentous occasion emphasized the importance of collaboration between PT NRS and local government officials in advancing environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives in the region. In addition to this ceremonial presentation, the signing of the Ethnobotany book by both Mr. Dr. H. Deddy Winarwan and Mr. Ir. Bilivson marked a memorable moment, reinforcing the partnership between PT NRS and local authorities. This collaboration aims to foster a greater understanding of environmental issues and inspire collective action for a more sustainable future.
The PT NRS booth also served as a hub for vital information, offering brochures that addressed crucial environmental topics, including ecosystem restoration, stunting, climate change, diarrhea, drug abuse, and waste management. These informative campaign materials were remnants from the National Conservation Day event held in Tangkiling, Central Kalimantan, where PT NRS actively participated. This commitment to sharing knowledge highlights the organization’s ongoing dedication to promoting environmental education and awareness within the community.
To further engage visitors and create a lively atmosphere, PT NRS introduced an exciting souvenir giveaway through a lottery system. Each guest received a ticket upon entry, and those fortunate enough to draw a “YOU'RE LUCKY” card were rewarded with delightful prizes such as pens, notebooks, or utensils. This interactive approach brought joy to attendees, including children who participated by signing the guest book, ensuring that everyone felt included in the festivities.
Visitor Experience at the Exhibition Booth
The Barsel Expo 2024 buzzed with varying energy throughout the week, with quiet mornings evolving into lively evenings. PT NRS staff rotated every five hours, maintaining enthusiasm while distributing souvenirs and interacting with visitors. Guests left uplifting messages in the visitor book, expressing sentiments like “Keep it Clean,” “Fantastic,” and “Bravo!”
Overall, the PT NRS booth welcomed 971 visitors, with the peak attendance on the third day at 272 guests and a notable drop to just four on the final day. The opening day saw a flurry of visitors eager to witness the launch, although not all signed the attendance sheet. On select days, operational hours were adjusted for management visits, impacting foot traffic. On the closing day, all booths, including DLH, offered door prizes, attracting even more guests.
Several visitors expressed keen interest in the displayed Ethnobotany book, inquiring about its availability for purchase. The booth staff clarified that the book is currently not for sale and is only on display. Additionally, attendees admired the handcrafted items, mistaking them for souvenirs. In response, the staff provided profiles and contact information for the artisans, fostering connections between visitors and local craftspeople.
Spreading Information About PT NRS
PT NRS utilized brochures to share valuable information about their initiatives. Visitors were encouraged to take or read the brochures, sparking informative discussions about the organization’s goals. Some attendees even inquired about job openings at PT NRS, highlighting the booth's effectiveness in community engagement.
The team also seized the opportunity to visit other stakeholder booths, further promoting PT NRS and YHES while participating in surveys to gather feedback.
Through this event, PT NRS not only showcased its commitment to environmental sustainability but also fostered connections with the community and local stakeholders. The Barsel Expo 2024 proved to be a significant platform for promoting collaboration and understanding in Barito Selatan.
